2 Types of Cyber Threats in 2022

Cyber threats in 2022 range in type and purpose, but they typically have a common goal: to forcefully extract information or money from a victim. Here are two kinds of cyber threat that a person might face in everyday life.

Phishing

Phishing attacks use trickery to convince a person that the message he or she is receiving was sent from a reliable person, authority, or corporation. The message may be sent through email, chat box, or SMS text. The message may appear to originate from someone the victim trusts such as a bank, the Internal Revenue Service, local police, or a church, for example. The message may ask for login credentials including security questions or passwords, or it can be a demand for money.

Ransomware

Ransomware creates a block between a person and the information stored on his or her hard drive, online account, or cell phone. The victim is informed that he or she must pay a fee or some other type of penalty in order to regain access. Unfortunately, this kind of attack often results in destruction of information, so the user never regains access to their property.

Cyber threats are an increasing problem in our modern world. Staying informed on the varieties of cyber threats in existence is one way to help prevent becoming a victim.
